Ashwani Lohani appointed as Railway Board chairman– National carrier Air India Chief managing director Mr. Ashwani Lohani is newly appointed the chairman of Railway Board. Mr. Ashwani Lohani is an Indian Railway Service officer of the 1980 batch. In his previous stint with the railways, he managed its mechanical division. Mr. Ashwani accepted and is ready to fight with IR issues. Mr. Ashwani succeeded Mr.AK Mittal who resigned citing personal reasons.
Government is trying to revamp the Indian Railway. In this regard a big change we had seen this year when Railway Budget was merged with union budget. Indian Railway is world’s fourth-largest rail network that has more than 12,000 passenger trains, 7,000 odd stations and carries more than 20 million passengers each day.
“Safety shall remain our focus. We have to always be on our guard to ensure the highest level of safety in train operations and instill a renewed sense of confidence in our esteemed passengers,” Lohani wrote in the letter, calling the accidents unfortunate. He also highlighted the problem of the deteriorating operating ratio of the national transporter.
Mr.AK Mittal quit from Chairman post of Railway Board within train accident of Delhi-bound Kaifiyat Express derailed in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh after it hit a dumper truck stuck on the tracks. 10 coaches of the train derailed. Around 20 people were injured. Prior to this, on 19th August, 13 coaches of the Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express derailed in Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh. Over 23 people died in this accident.
Mr. Ashwani Lohani holds an amazing record of having four engineering equivalent degrees. He completed four engineering degrees in mechanical, electrical, metallurgical, and electronics and telecommunication engineering. between 1977-79 from Institute of Engineers, Kolkata.
Mr. Ashwani Lohani is the former director of National Rail Museum. He also served as Chief Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation. He also received the railway national award for outstanding performance in 1996.
Ashwani Lohani is IRSME officer, current Chairman of the Indian Railway Board and previous Chairman and Managing Director of Air India. Holds a Limca Record for having four “building degree reciprocals” in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Institution of Engineers, India; a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for effectively running the ‘Pixie Queen Express’, the world’s most established working steam train. Likewise filled in as DRM, Delhi Division; Director, National Rail Museum; Chief Administrative Officer, Rail Alternate Fuels; Commissioner and Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation and Chairman and Managing Director India Tourism Development Corporation.
He is a Mechanical Engineer; As a component of Railways preparing he has attended the workshop in Mechanical, Electrical, and Telecommunications at IRIMEE. He finished his tutoring at St. Aloysius High School in Kanpur and considered building at Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Jamalpur.
