Athlete PU Chitra may receive Rs. 50 lakhs compensation from AFI– Sprinter PU Chitra who won gold in 1500m at Asian Championship moved to The Kerala High Court. She blamed Athletics Federation of India (AFI) for not including her in Indian team for World Athletics Championships held in London.
She asked for a compensation of Rs 50 lakhs from Athletics Federation of India. She also demanded for framing guidelines for selection of athletes to participate in national and international level competitions. She requested to build guidelines for selection of coaches too. She moved to court even a high court order is in her favour.
Blamed Athletics Federation of India for not including her in Indian Team
The appeal to said remuneration and confining of rules are being looked for as a scorn of court request of against AFI has progressed toward becoming infructuous as the big showdowns are finished. These headings are required for rendering considerable equity to her, Chitra said in the appeal.
Chitra has affirmed that there are no settled rules for choice of competitors to take an interest in different occasions and these have been borne out by the testimony documented by AFI under the watchful eye of the high court. “The whole choice process was obfuscated in mystery,” the appeal to said. For whatever length of time that there are no settled criteria or rules, the endeavor to degenerate the whole framework would be pervasive, the competitor has asserted.
In her petition Chita said as world championships are over, compensation and framing guidelines would be justice for her. As AFI do it intentionally. Chitra has also alleged that AFI don’t have any fixed rule and guideline to select athletes for national and international level competitions. “The entire selection process was clouded in secrecy,” the petition said.
She also envisaged that this practice would lead the more corruption in the system. And deserving athletes may face difficulties and lose their faith in officials even after performing. “As long as there are no fixed criteria or guidelines, the attempt to corrupt the entire system would be prevalent” the athlete has alleged.
