On Tuesday Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Anupam Shrivastava has announced that BSNL will set up 1 lakh wi-fi spots all over the India by March 2019. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is state-owned telecom firm.
The BSNL CMD said that the company will invest Rs 1,800 crore in setting up 70,000 wi-fi hotspots in urban areas while 25,000 wi-fi hotspots proposed for rural areas. Remaining 5,000 wi-fi hotspots will be setting up on revenue share basis. Universal Service Obligation Fund is providing financial assistance of Rs 900 crore in setting up 25,000 wi-fi hotspots in rural areas. It also include three years of operation and maintenance.
Anupam Shrivastava was present on of the launching of a GST application for BSNL customers. He told to a reporter’s that they have planned to set up 1 lakh wi-fi hotspots across India by March 2019. Out of which 25,000 wi-fi hotspots are for rural areas. The Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) will provide financial assistance to set up wi-fi hotspots in rural areas.
Shrivastava said “We will set up another 5,000 wi-fi hotspots on revenue share basis and BSNL is not required to invest capital. we are only providing bandwidth.”
Under GST application which was launched on Tuesday, he said BSNL has selected Masters India that will provide software to customers of the state-run firm.
Y N Singh, GM Finance-BSNL said any trader can use Masters India’s software on BSNL network. He can also generate up to 2,000 invoices in a year for free for cost. Mr. Singh also said “It is a pre-paid service. Beyond 2,000 invoices, charges will apply as per slab rate fixed by the company.”
Nishank Goyal, CEO-Masters India, said a business house can generate 2,000 invoices a year free of cost. But business house move onward 2,000-6,000 invoices, business house will have to pay Rs 1,999 per annum. Beyond 6,000 invoices firm will have to pay at the rate of Re 1 per invoice.
Shrivastava said “A new entrant has changed the dynamics of doing business in the telecom sector. Mobile phone tariff rates are going to rock bottom. We need to explore some other ways or develop a model for generating revenue. Now trending GST filing service gives us a good option to generate revenues. For sake of that we are providing GST generating software at our network in partnership with Masters India. Service is available on revenue sharing basis and it will also attract customers on our network.”
