  1. Mr. Dharmendra Kumar, ADG-CISF has been appointed as Director General of the Railway Protection Force (RPF). He Succeeded SK bhagawat. Mr. Dharmendra Kumar is IPS officer. SK Bhagawat retired in June 2017, and additional charge of post was given to Sudhir Pratap Singh, DG-NSG(National Security Guard).
  2. Mr. Nachiket Madhusudan Mor, country director of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has re-appointed as member of the Eastern local board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for four years on 24 August 2017. He was also nominated for a director of the central board of directors of RBI.
  3. Mr. Banmali Agrawala has appointed as President, Infrastructure, Defence and Aerospace in Tata Sons Group. He was Executive Director of Strategy and Business Development and in the Board of Directors of Tata Power from 2008 to 2011. He was also nominated to the board of other Tata Group Companies and JV.
  4. Prof Digambar Behera awarded with Biju Patnaik Award for Scientific Excellence for the year 2016. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik awarded him. Prof. Digambar Behera is sr. professor and Head of Department of Pulmonary Medicine at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh.
  5. Banks have to pay 3% IGST (CGST+ SGST) on import of gold and precious metals under the GST that can be claimed as input tax credit. Under GST 3% IGST(Integrated Goods and Service tax) is payable on all imports of precious metals in addition to the basic customs duty i.e. 10% for gold.
  6. HDFC Bank announced to launch a software upgrade. This upgrade is used to create a single point-of-sale (PoS) machine that will accept payments through BharatQR, Unified Payments Interface(UPI), SMS Pay, PayZapp, Tap & Pay, EMIs and the bank’s mobile wallet as well as traditional method of swiping the debit/credit cards. The merchant have to update his machine with the software that will be available for free of cost. The software will work with only HDFC Bank-issued PoS machines. But it will accept all types of cards and payment app of any bank.
  7. A RBI panel which is headed by Prof. Tarun Ramadorai has given its recommendation to adopt a rights- based privacy framework in household finance on 25 August. Prof. Tarun Ramadorai is a financial economist at Imperial College London.
  8. Minister of State for External Affairs Shri M.J. Akbar visited Ghana and Equatorial Guinea from during 14-18 August 2017. He inaugurated the ‘Namaskar Africa’ Business Forum-cum-Exhibition in Ghana. The event was jointly organized by the Indian Commerce Ministry (ICM) and the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
  9. The fifth round of Foreign and Security Policy Consultations between India and the European Union were held in New Delhi on 25th of Aug 2017. Secretary Ruchi Ghanashyam represented India while Mr. Jean-Christophe Belliard, Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs, European External Action Service represented European Union.

  11. The Central government has clarified that selling of space for advertisements in print media will come under 5-18% GST regime. It also depends on the terms of the contract between the newspaper, advertisement agency and the client.
    1. According to the Finance Ministry If the advertisement agency buy space from the newspaper and sells this space to clients for advertisement on its own account. It would be liable to pay 5% GST from the customer.
    2. If the advertisement agency works agent of the newspaper on commission basis and sells the space to client for advertisement. It would be liable to pay 18% GST on the sale commission it receives from the newspaper.
  12. The Ruias-run Essar Oil announced the completion of sale of its India assets to the Russian government controlled Rosneft-led consortium for $12.9 billion. According to Essar Energy, the deal includes sale of its 20 million tonne refinery at Vadinar in Gujarat and over 3,500 petrol pumps. Rosneft will get a 49.13 percent stake in Essar Oil. The Essar Oil-Rosneft deal is the largest FDI investment into the country till date and also the largest outbound investment from Russia.
  13. US President Donald Trump signed a memo which holds an indefinite ban on transgender individuals to join the military. But he allowed those one who is already in the military. Around 2,500 transgender personnel are serving and 1,500 personnel are in the reserves. The Obama administration in June 2016 changed longstanding policy declaring that troops could serve openly as transgender individuals.
  14. According to Canadian Government, transgender Canadians will be able to mark “X” on their passports, instead of “M” or “F” from 31st August 2017. Canadian Government said it is an important step towards increasing more gender equality in Canada.
  15. China’s State Administration of Work Safety announced that china will shut 6,000 non-coal mines by 2020 to reduce mining accidents and deaths. More than 500 people died in non-coal mining accidents in 2015. China wants to reduce accidents by 15% by 2020 from 2015 levels in the non-coal mining sector.
  16. Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu will officially launch the Sports Ministry’s most- awaited National Sports Talent Search Portal at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on 28 August 2017. On Portal any boy or girl can upload his achievements in a particular sport.
  17. Barcelona Forward footballer Lionel Messi has Become First Ever Player to Score 350 La Liga Goals. Messi has played a total of 384 league matches. He made this record, when he was playing against Alaves. Cristiano Ronaldo is second highest scorer player after Lionel Messi who have 284 La Liga goals. Lionel Messi is an Argentine professional footballer.
