  1. Indian Telecom Company Bharti Airtel Ties up with Symantec Corp. Symantec Corp is one of the world’s leading expert company in cyber security field. Symantec will provide protection and prevention to growing businesses in India. A direct benefit to new startups under “Make In India” and “Digital India” programme. Airtel will distribute Symantec’s security software across the India. Agreement says Airtel will act as exclusive Cyber Security Services partner for Symantec.
  2. The Special CBI court Judge Jagdeep Singh sentenced Dera chief’s Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for Imprisonment of 10 Years at Panchkula. Dera chief was accused of a rape case in 2002.
  3. External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj has inaugurated first ‘Videsh Bhavan’ in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai, Maharashtra. Speciality of Bhavan is that It has different offices of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) at one place. Initially four offices: Regional Passport Office (RPO), Regional Office of ICCR , Protector of Emigrants (PoE) office and Branch Secretariat, came together.
  4. The Insurance Regulator IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) has launched a central Database of all Insurance Sales Persons in the country. Central database named as “Envoy”.
  5. Defence Minister Arun Jaitley at Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL) handed over a Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LRSAM) to Indian Navy. LRSAM jointly developed by India and Israel. LRSAM is designed to defend against any type of airborne threat including aircraft, combat jets, helicopters, anti-ship missiles, and UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle ) as well as cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) produce the missiles. LR-SAM also known as MR-SAM or Barak 8.
  6. Justice Dipak Misra sworn as 45th Chief Justice of India. President Ramnath Kovind administered the oath of office to Justice Dipak Misra. He succeeded Justice Justice JS Khehar. Dipak Misra appointed as CJI for next 13 months and he will stay in office till October 2, 2018.
  7. Indian Commodity Exchange (ICEX) has launched world’s first diamond futures contracts on 28 August 2017 to provide exporters with a hedging tool. Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has given approval ICEX to start trading with diamond futures contracts. The futures contracts will enable companies involving in cut and polished gems business to better hedge price risks. The merger of Ahmedabad-based National Multi Commodity Exchange (NMCE) into ICEX was also announced on Monday.
  8. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has signed a deal with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) worth of Rs.17,000 crore for producing advanced medium—range surface-to-air-missile (MRSAM) system for Indian Army by 2020. Under the deal 40 firing units and around 200 missiles will be developed.
  9. The Union Government has notified the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Act, 2017. The Parliament had already approved the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2017. After amendment RBI will get more authority to regulate Banks on NPA. The RBI can issue directions to banks for resolution of stressed assets. The Apex Bank can also specify committees and authorities to advise the respective bank on resolution of stressed assets. RBI can appoint and approve the members in the committees. Apex Bank can also issue directions for the banks to initiate the insolvency resolution process under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 to recover bad loans.
  10. Revenue Department under Union Finance Ministry has imposed a 5 year anti-dumping duty on Sodium Nitrite imports from China. Directorate General of Antidumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) recommended to impose the duty. DGAD said in his report that “continued dumping” of the ‘sodium nitrite’ from China is hampering the domestic market. Sodium Nitrite is a white type crystalline powder and mostly it used in the pharmaceutical and dye industries. It works as an oxidizing and reducing agent.
  11. IIT Bombay and IIT Indore have jointly developed a biosensor which detects kidney disorders in less than 8 minutes. The biosensor can accurately measure both the pH and urea concentration from a single drop of urine. It will help in some care tests to determine whether the kidneys are functioning normally.
  12. The first edition of Miss Transqueen India, a beauty pageant for transgenders organized at Gurugram. 26 year old Nitasha Biswas from Kolkata became India’s first Miss Transqueen. Loiloi Haorongbam from Manipur was the first runner-up and Ragasiya from Tamil Nadu stood as second runner-up.
  13. Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa inaugurated the 56th annual conference of Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine (IAM) at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Bengaluru. IAM provides support to the Indian Aviation Industry.
  14. Taiwan’s National Space Organisation (NSO) has launched its first indigenously developed observation satellite “Formosat-5” from an air base in the US. Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen said the launch is a great leap that demonstrates Taiwan’s technological progress.
  15. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has inaugurated the Ocean Forecasting System for Comoros, Madagascar, and Mozambique. Forecasting System inaugurated during the third Ministerial Meeting of Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Asia and Africa (RIMES). Meeting was held at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. INCOSIS works under The Ministry of Earth Sciences.
  16. A two-day Indian Ocean Conference to be held in Colombo from August 31. The Theme for conference will be “peace, progress, and prosperity”. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will represent India. And around 35 countries will participate in said conference.
  17. According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) report, the island of Tuvalu was the least visited country in 2016. According to the report 2,000 people visited Tuvalu in 2016 while in 2014 the number was 1,000.
  18. Uber Technologies Inc. appointed Dara Khosrowshahi as its new CEO. Khosrowshahi succeeded Travis Kalanick, Uber’s pugnacious co-founder. Currently Dara Khosrowshahi, is chief executive of travel company Expedia Inc.
  19. Indian U-15 football team clinched SAFF U-15 football Championship title at Kathmandu, Nepal. In finals Indian defeated Nepal’s team. India won by 2-1. Lalrokima and Vikram made his goal form Indian side.
  20. Indian shutter P V Sindhu has Won Silver medal in 2017 World Badminton Championship at Glasgow, Scotland. Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara defeated her in finals.
  21. Saina Nehwal won a bronze medal in 2017 World Badminton Championship at Glasgow, Scotland. Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara defeated her in semi-finals.
  22. Mercedes’ F1 Racer Lewis Hamilton has Won Belgian Grand Prix title. He crossed his rival Sebastian Vettel in a close gap. Sebastian Vettel do races for Ferrari. While Daniel Ricciardo finished third. Lewis Hamilton Won Belgian Grand Prix for record third time.
