  1. Kerala’s CM Shri Pinarayi Vijayan launched the host a logo for Kochi. Kochi is one of the venues where FIFA U-17 World Cup matches to be scheduled. Match will be hosted at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium of the city. Final match scheduled at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. The Official Mascot for FIFA U-17 World Cup is a clouded leopard named as “Kheleo”. This is the first FIFA tournament to be organized in India.
  2. The National Sports day is celebrated on 29th August. This day mark the birthday of hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. Every year on this day, President of India gives different sports awards like Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award and Dronacharya Award. This year a total of 29 players have been selected for the awards.
  3. The Income Tax Department has imposed Rs 7,900 crore penalty on Vodafone for due taxes.
  4. National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) has won the Assocham Services Excellence Award 2017. NRDC’s Chairman and MD, H Purushotham has honored with the IAAM Sweden Medal 2017 for his outstanding R&D contribution in the Advanced Materials Science & Technology. The award ceremony held at Stockholm, Sweden. NRDC works under Ministry of Science & Technology. IAAM stands for International Association of Advanced Materials.
  5. The first edition of Miss Transqueen India, a beauty pageant for transgenders organized at Gurugram. 26 year old Nitasha Biswas from Kolkata became India’s first Miss Transqueen. Loiloi Haorongbam from Manipur was the first runner-up and Ragasiya from Tamil Nadu stood as second runner-up.
  6. Revenue Department under Union Finance Ministry has imposed a 5 year anti-dumping duty on Sodium Nitrite imports from China. Directorate General of Antidumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) recommended to impose the duty. DGAD said in his report that “continued dumping” of the ‘sodium nitrite’ from China is hampering the domestic market. Sodium Nitrite is a white type crystalline powder and mostly it used in the pharmaceutical and dye industries. It works as an oxidizing and reducing agent.
  7. India and Germany signed an agreement to improve grid integration of renewable energy under the Indo-German Energy Programme – Green Energy Corridors (IGEN-GEC). The agreement was signed between India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
  8. Kenya has imposed World’s Toughest Law and ban on use of plastic bags. Under this law selling and using plastic bags is totally banned. Violating the law it will cause imprisonment of up to four years or fines of $40,000.
  9. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN global nuclear watchdog, has opened world’s first low Enriched Uranium (LEU) Bank at Oskemen in Kazakhstan to discourage new nations from enriching the nuclear fuel. IAEA will sell the fuel to its members if they are unable to procure it elsewhere. The IAEA is the world’s center for cooperation in the nuclear field and seeks to promote the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear technologies.
  10. West Bengal’s Gobindobhog rice has got geographical indication (GI ) status from Geographical Indications Registry (GIR). The West Bengal government had applied for GI status for Gobindobhog rice in August 2015. Gobindobhog rice is a speciality rice from Burdwan district of West Bengal. Gobindobhog rice Gobindobhog variety of rice is a short grain, white, aromatic, sticky rice having a sweet buttery flavor.
  11. Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu has launched Launches ‘National Sports Talent Search Portal’at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on 28 August 2017. Under the National Sports Talent Search Portal initiative, a child (girl/boy), his parents, coaches or teachers can upload his bio data, images, video on the portal.
  12. Uber Technologies Inc. appointed Dara Khosrowshahi as its new CEO. Khosrowshahi succeeded Travis Kalanick, Uber’s pugnacious co-founder. Currently Dara Khosrowshahi, is chief executive of travel company Expedia Inc.
  13. East Bengal legend Footballer Ahmed Khan has passed away in age of 90. He played two times Olympic football for India in 1948 and 1952.
