  1. Piyush Goyal has appointed as new Rail Minister and Nirmala Sitharaman has appointed as Defence Minister. Piyush Goyal succeeded Suresh Prabhu whereas Nirmala Sitharaman took charge of Defence minister from Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Nirmala Sitharaman became the second woman to hold the post of Defence Minister after Indira Gandhi. Earllier Nirmala Sitharaman was Minister of State for Commerce and Industries, and Piyush Goyal was Minister of State for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines. 
  2. Five banks of the BRICS Bank Cooperation Mechanism, Brazilian Development Bank (Brazil), Vnesheconombank (Russia), EXIM Bank (India), China Development Bank (China) and Development Bank of Southern Africa (South Africa) have agreed to establish credit lines in the national currencies and cooperate on credit ratings in Beijing. Recently New Development Bank (NDB) of the BRICS countries has approved 1.4 billion US dollar loans for sustainable development projects in India, China and Russia. China is hosting the 9th BRICS Summit in Xiamen city. The theme of the 9th BRICS Summit is “Stronger Partnership for a better future”.
  3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inducted nine new Ministers of state into the Union Council of Ministers. Besides this, Four Ministers of state (MoS) were elevated to the cabinet rank. A total 13 changes has been made in the cabinet reshuffle. President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office to all of them at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

  4. Indian Government organization Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued an alert on the spread of new malware ‘Locky Ransomware’. The new Locky Ransomware malware can lock computers and demand ransom for unlocking them. Ajay Kumar, Additional Secretary of Electronics and IT tweeted that an alert regarding spam spreading Locky Ransomware was issued by Indian Computer Emergency Response Team. Ransomware is malicious software. Hackers put it into computers through and at its initial stage, malicious software lock the computer of user and demands the ransom of half Bitcoin. This year ransomware attacked on systems of different fields including government systems in various countries. At present a bitcoin is equivalent 293230.56 Indian Rupee. 
  5. Hockey India has ruled out national coach Roelant Oltmans citing lack of trust in his formula of “long- term” process for success. The decision was taken during the three-day meeting of the Hockey India High Performance and Development Committee. Committee also appointed High-Performance Director David John till a suitable replacement is found. Harbinder Singh is present chairman of the Hockey India Selection Committee. South Korea is hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics at Pyeongchang. Japan is hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics at Tokyo and China is hosting 2022 winter Olympics at Beijing.
