  1. The National Nutrition Week will be observed throughout the country from 1st to 7th September. The theme for this is “Optimal Infant & Young Child Feeding Practices: Better Child Health“. The objective of this event is to spread awareness of importance of nutrition for health and how it would affect overall development of a Nation.
  2. Anita Karwal, an IAS officer has appointed as the new Chairperson of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). She succeeded Mr. Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi. She is currently working as additional secretary in HRD Ministry. Mr. Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi has been appointed as Director General of the National Skill Development Agency.
  3. Mr. Kenneth I. Juster, Deputy Director of the National Economic Council, USA has been nominated for the next USA ambassador to India. The appointment will take into effect after approval by the U.S Senate.
  4. India and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will shortly conclude their pending negotiations talks on Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Negotiation had started in 2008. The proposed FTA between India and EFTA covers trade in goods and services, investments, trade facilitation, IRPR protection, public procurement and customs cooperation. The proposed FTA between India and EFTA will boost economic ties between the two sides.
  5. For the first time, its Assam Government who has extended term of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958 and declared entire state a Disturbed Area for six more months under Section 3 of AFSP Act. AFSPA provisions in state were always extended by the Centre.
  6. UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova handed over a certificate to Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani declaring Ahmedabad as ‘World Heritage City by UNESCO’ in Gandhinagar. The 600-year-old Walled City, Ahmedabad in Gujarat was earlier accorded with the status of India’s first World Heritage.
  7. The world’s highest sandcastle 16.68 meters has made in Duisburg, German. It has broken the record of 14.84 metre sandcastle which was built early this year in India by sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik.
  8. Swedish defence and Security Company SAAB and India based Adani Group have announced to manufacture the Gripen E fighter jets in India. The partnership was announced mainly for design, development and production of single engine Gripen fighter jets.
    • SAAB is manufacturer of Gripen, a single-engine multi-role fighter aircraft which include advance technology such as data links and sensors.
    • Earlier this year US’ Lockheed Martin with Tata Advanced Systems had been announced for manufacturing of the latest version of F-16 in India.
  9. PM Narendra Modi has inaugurated “Rajaswa Gyan Sangam-2017” at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. It is a two-day annual conference which is jointly organized by the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) and Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). Conference is mainly focused to strengthen the communication between the policy-makers and senior officers in the field offices. It also aims to increase revenue collection and facilitate effective implementation of law and policies.
  10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on visit. He will be in China for the 9th BRICS summit from September 3-5, and will be in Myanmar from September 5-7. It is first bilateral State visit of Myanmar country. He will meet with President U Htin Kyaw and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
  11. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has approved constitution of 13-member Empowered Steering Committee (ESC).It will shape India’s preparation for multi-disciplinary events in sports. It will also keep vigil on India’s preparation for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Formation of ESC was recommended by Abinav Bindra who is heading Olympic Task Force. The ESC chairperson will be appointed by the Government and will work up-to December 31, 2020.
