President Ram Nath Kovind gives Sports Award on National Sports Day–The National Sports Day celebrated on 29 August every year in India. This day marks the birthday of Hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. President Ram Nath Kovind presented the sports award to the nominated person on the occasion of National Sports Day at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Delhi. He gave prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award to former India hockey team captain Sardar Singh and Paralympian javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia.
The President presented Dronacharya awards to Late R. Gandhi for Athletics, PA Raphel for Hockey-lifetime), Brij Bhushan Mohanty for boxing-lifetime, Heera Nand Kataria for kabaddi, G.S.S.V. Prasad for badminton-lifetime, Roshan Lal for wrestling-lifetime and Sanjoy Chakravarthy for shooting-lifetime.
The President also presented The Arjuna award to Harmanpreet Kaur (cricket), Cheteshwar Pujara (cricket), S.V. Sunil (hockey), P.N. Prakash (shooting), Rajiv Arokia (athletics), Khushbir Kaur (athletics), Saketh Myneni (tennis), S.S.P. Chaurasia (golf), Laishram Devendro Singh (boxing), Jyoti Surekha Vennam (archery), Prashanti Singh (basketball), Satyavrat Kadian (wrestling), Anthony Amalraj (table tennis), Jasvir Singh (kabaddi), Oinam Bembem Devi (football) along with Paralympians Varun Singh Bhati and Mariyappan Thangavelu.
The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardees received a medal, a citation and a cash prize of Rs 7.5 lakh. The Dronacharya, Arjuna and Dhyan Chand Awardees received a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh each along with a statuette and a certificate.

The Dronacharya Award was instituted in 1985. Only 104 received this award till date. Dronacharya Award given to coaches for their outstanding contribution in Sports and Games. Dronacharya Award is an honor to Coaches. The award is on the named of “Dronacharya” or “Guru Drona”. Dronacharya is a character from the “Mahabharata”.
Under this Award, Awardee gets a bronze statuette of Dronacharya, a certificate, ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh.

About The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award
The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award was instituted in 1991–92 and given in Sports and Games. It is named after the former PM of India Rajiv Gandhi. It is the highest sporting honor to a sportsperson in India. Only 34 received this award till date
Under this Award, Awardee gets a medallion, a certificate, and a cash prize of Rs. 7.5 lakh

About The National Sports Day
The National Sports Day celebrated on 29 August every year in India. This day marks the birthday of Hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. He won gold medals in Olympics for India in the years 1928, 1932 and 1936. He scored more than 400 goals in his 22-year career from 1926 to 1948. The most noted memorial for him is the Major Dhyan Chand Award. Dhyan Chand Award is the highest award for lifetime achievement in sports and games in India.
